Why does everyone do 1/8 mile tracks , are they cheaper because they are shorter , or because you can theorize what your 1/4 mile time would be and be off by a couple of seconds ?

1/8 mile tracks are more plentiful plus once you get to the 1/8 mile section of a 1/4 mile track you're just cruising. The shear joy is in the acceleration and launch. That is where all the fun lies at the track.
