    remote start question

i installed a viper 5901 remote start / alarm system in my truck, we also used a CAN ls2 module with the system. i got the it all hooked up and everything on the alarm works but the remote start wont work. you press the start button the crank light appears and it clicks and sounds like its trying to get it to fire but it wont actually start up or turn over. anyone put in this alarm and had this problem or similar? and i looked up the code its throwing and it says low battery but we checked the area where it was hooked up and connected it to the battery. if anyone has any tips or has experience in this i would greatly appreciate some help.

How much did that cost? If you have AP3 or AP8 it would have only been a few bucks to do it right with GM stuff.

I put the Viper 5901 in my truck in early summer this year. Mine is a 2006 Avy. I used the XK01. I didn't really have any issues after I installed the 2 miles of wire and every add-on they had for system knock on wood along with it being the first ever alarm I had ever installed. And as you know DEI don't make it any easier for the DIY. I did use the bit writer which makes a world of difference in configuring the system after you install it. Five months and counting with no issues.

Other than having an issue with your wiring or interface, how you handled the tach, or other hard wire you might go back through the configuration settings (i.e. comes manual trans and you have to switch to auto if auto or want start). There is also a smart start setting (default is 10.5 v) in case you have low battery problem (you can set it off to test the thought with a bit writer). There are also remote starting diagnostics described in the manual you should go back through if you have not already.

There are no recalls on GM remote start upgrades and they use all existing components. The only difference is the remotes and operating software. The GM kit is less than $200 plus what your neigborly GM tech charges for the programming.

Can you do the remote start upgrade on a 99 or is it for the NNBS only?
I have been wanting a remote start/alarm but don't really feel like dropping $300-400 on a good alarm when I already have the factory alarm.

Remote start upgrade is nnbs only.

Wires on nnbs for remote start are red/white 2a 12v(do not use unless for starter relay only), 2a 12v ign1 is pink, 2a ign2 is white, 2a acc/ start is brown. All are in a green plug at bcm I believe but don't hold me to that, test everything first. In all of the nnbs trucks I did I used the xk01 for doorlocks and I can't remember the part number on the second but they were both flashlogic modules. I never had any issues with them not starting and I can't really troubleshoot something without it being in front of me. Sorry I wasn't more help. Helps to let the pros (at GOOD reputable shops, there are plenty of "pros" that don't know what they are doing) handle these kinds of installs. The nnbs truck have fairly complex wiring/starting systems. They use a drop in accto start the truck, that's where the module comes in. In factory equipped vehicles use a wire for remote start, in other words, you can keep remote start with any aftermarket system. Factory systems work great for keyless and remote start, it's the alarm end of them that suck.

But why would you need to use remote start over and over while you have a check engine light?

Yes. You must have options AP3 or AP8 on the the GMT900.

An alarm is useless anywhere around here. Thieves that steel stereos aren't afraid to set one off and it's really hard to steal a newer truck without a wrecker.
