Yeah man...these Gen III LS GM motors are very stout indeed. Since it is still the old tried-and-true pushrod/OHV design, it makes them super easy to work on and very reliable. You can make some very decent numbers with a 5.3L. I love the combo of the 96mm bore/92mm stroke/9.5:1 CR. This is a nicely balanced engine that raps up very qucikly. If you are an older hotrodder, then you will also remember the 327 that GM made--this motor is very similar in dimension, but as you know--the 327 had the wonderful 4'' (101.6mm) bore. Aside from the SBC 350, I think the 327 was one of the last great motors GM made until the Gen III LS motors arrived. The 5.3L can be tuned/cammed for low end power, but they are usually best suited for higher hp figures than tq numbers. No matter what you do with this engine, you will love the results.

Well in my world my 5.3 takes a beating daily and with 205k plus miles on it still puts over 300 to the ground!I remember Dads 283s and 327s but they never made it to 100k for that matter 50k before something went wrong.GM did there homework on this series engines and hit it out of the park! And still doing it with pushrods!
