Hello all.
Been lurking for about a month and finally registered.
Been trying to decide on engines for an offroad project and this site seemed to be the best for the help I need.

I'll try to search but will probably have a lot of questions.
Have an LT1 now that needs a rebuild but am seriously looking at an LQ9.

Welcome

What kind of offroad project? The 6.0 is heavy if weight will be a disadvantage. If you want light weight go with the 5.3L aluminum block from like an SSR or Trailblazer. The 6.0L is a sweet engine if your suspension can handle it. If you had an LT1 before the 6.0L weight won't be an issue. Building a rock crawler or a mud slinger?

Thanks for the welcome guys.
I'm looking at a trail rig that will be both for mud and rocks. Expected weight will be about 3500-4000lbs.
I've looked at the 5.3 (LM4 I believe). New to Chev engines and pretty much engines in general. I bought the LT1 after some reading (not enough) and thought it would be a good engine. Its a 9C1.
I'm checking right now on the rear distributor conversion and a rebuild. If the price is equal I might just go with the LM4 or LQ9.

I'm not too overly concerned with weight. I'm looking at possibly 47" tires so I want close to 400lbs torque.

Help guys

Its not built yet. I know what it will be though. I'll see if I can dig up some pics of what it will look like.
Yes the 9C1 is the po-po engine. I bought it from someone that got it from someone.....

I'm just trying to get the powertrain figured out. It will be a year long or so build. I just don't want to be underpowered and dissapointed with my engine choice.
My current ride is a 2K Grand Cherokee with 40" tires and just a 4.0L straight six. (Gutless).

I'm running 5.38s in Dana60s right now. Its actually not bad on the highway. I went to Moab, Utah back in June and only had one really bad hill I think was outside Pocatello, ID.
Here's a pic of mine .
And this is what I want/ am going to build.

Is that one of those like they built on Extreme 4x4 on SpikeTV? I think they called it the Poison Spyder.
