Thumbs up

I opened the passenger side door of my truck today to find water puddled on the floormat. I touched the carpet and it was soaking wet between the floormat and the plastic floor trim. We had about a 4.5 inch rain, but I had not driven during the rain. It is leaking under the dash somewhere. I sprayed water mainly over the cowl and edge of the door. Then opened the door and there was water on the speaker and the small dash panel above the speaker. I removed the panel, but could not tell where it was coming from. I did a search and this is the only post I found:

    http://forum.ls1truck.com/index.php?showto...p;hl=water+leak

Anybody had experience with this or know somebody who has? I haven't even had the truck a week yet! But of course, with my luck, since it is used, the only warranty is on the powertrain and other lubricated parts. I am going to call the salesman tomorrow and see what he says. I know he probably didn't know about it either, but it would be good for future sales if he would help me out. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. If this needs to be moved to another forum section, please feel free.

I had the same problem a couple of years back. Open the passenger door and look where the rubber gromet is between the frame and the door. The wire harness goes thru it. My gromet came out and it was letting water in. GET SOME GOOD SILICONE and put a bead around the gromet and stick it back in. let it set for a day and it should seal it up. This was my case.

be sure to clean out the a/c - heater drain coming out of the firewall. Does the water feel slippery? Your heater core could have ruptured. You didn't have a freeze where you are did you?

Another place to check is the door drains. If they plug up the water fills the door panel up and then eventually runs out the door panel, possibly into the truck. If the door was facing the direction of the driving rain it could fill the door body panel quickly.

I just went and took a look. The grommet is attached well. But I have water above this point, so it can't be coming from there. Thanks for the idea, though. Does anyone know if it could be something to do with the A/C condensation drain? Is this connected to the cowl in anyway?

Yes, it was facing the rain direction. Where is this drain at? No, I don't think there is any antifreeze in the water, it had to be from the rain.

Was the windshield replaced? The sealer sometimes doesn't get installed correctly and will cause a leak.

Not sure, haven't had the truck long. It could have though. Is there anyway to tell if it has been replaced? Where are these door panel drains you mentioned?

at the bottom of the door. The water often runs down the glass and into the door sheet metal. The drain let the water flow through and then out. If you're parked with the passenger door uphill it could easily drain into the interior due to the design, especially if your door gasket has a split in the seam.

The little slits on the bottom of the door are not blocked, so I guess that's not it either. Though the bottom of the carpet on the door is also wet. Is the A/C condensation catch connected to where the water drains from the cowl? This thing could be plugged, but would it be leaking out the side of the dash?

To the best of my knowledge, but not 100% sure ---> If the HVAC drain is plugged, the water will run to the lowest portion of the HVAC system which is likely the blower area.

Agreed. Happend to my old 99 Z71. The carpet is a pain in the ass to finally get fry with that insulation under it. I ended up replacing mine.
