I have an 86 silverado. With a tired 305/th350
It will keep running hopefully for awhile longer. This is my "toy". Only drive it every so often.
My future plans are to do a late model FI engine swap, along with a new rearend and tranny.
I have been looking at tons of crate motors, I know I want to go FI.
I see a lot of mention of the lq9, seems like a good choice.
My questions are...For me to go FI, I need the motor, harness, and computer(at the very least).
Let's say I buy a brand new crate lq9, where/who would I go to for the computer, and would I need a custom harness?
As for the tranny, could I go with a stout 700r4? Or would it be better to go with a newer electronic tranny? That would also require a computer? Seperate?
I want something very reliable, and with some pep. Been having a hard time finding any shops locally that deal with this, so I turn to you guys, the experts. I have been reading these forums a lot lately, a little too much, stay up too late.
I also plan on dropping the truck maybe 3/5 and add some wheels, and maybe disc brakes.
I'd like to choose a motor that will fit without any cutting on the frame for exhaust clearance.
Thanks for any help.
