Hey all, Tryed to put a 02 pcm in today. service code ending 411.
I did the passkey relearn 4th time would not start. tried repeat but no security light.. Still wount start, Scan tool reads p1638 witch is not an optional code on a silverado. I did over here a guy say he pulled it out of a bravada? When I asked they said no its from a running 01 silverado. So im not sure if its not suposed to start cuz im missing a step, like getting it programed first? or just a bad pcm. Thanks for any help.

There should be a VIN code stamp on the PCM if it's straight out of an 02. Check the VIN to verify it.

The PCM will work once that a 2002 program is put in it that matches your setup. The 411 PCM is a universal PCM that GM uses for numerous engine programs.

Thanks Red, I was just under the impression it was plug and play. I assume if I get a 411 PCM from a 01-02 5.3 (Vin T) It would work- run? I do plan on getting a tune but cash is limited so im kinda piecing it together for now. I really have no idea but I am assuming it wont start because the PCM I bought is a 411 but is flashed for a 4.3?

The 1638 code has to do with vats, that's why it wouldn't start. it's for a 4.3L so the calibration is not setup for your truck.

simply have it flashed to an 02 truck with the same engine type as yours and then try the passkey, it should work. if not, it's a funky one and you'll need vats turned off.

the 02 pcm will cure your kr problem if it's not a mechanical or sensor problem.

    good luck,

    allen

Grr... What a joke! Second PCM was a 5.3 but was a Vin Z flex Fuel. Not sure if it matters but I said Vin T or dont bother! Would it be possable to program the 99 PCM With 01-02 software at the dealer?

You can flash any 411 service number pcm with an 01/02 truck calibration. You can also use that 01/02 pcm in your 99 truck, but I wouldn't suggest trying to flash it with a 99 calibration. It will take, but I've seen weird things happen.
The Z vin/pcm you got isn't the right calibration either, the injectors aren't the same, you'll need to take it to the dealer and have it flashed with an 02 truck T vin. Make sure the 02 vin has the same gears and tire size as yours or your speedometer will be off.

If you want, send it on over and I'll flash it to any vin you want (or I'll provide one) for $50.

    thanks,

    allen
