    E-fan swap on a new V8 swap

When I did the V6 to V8 swap, I also upgraded to the E-fan setup. My question is this, Do you guys with the E-fan set up use the fan shroud? Right now in the socal winter (don't laugh at me) I'm seeing an avg 194f on engine temp with a 186f thermostat and no shroud.

Depends on what E-fan you're running. The GM fans come with a shroud already around them. I've noticed that in all the HD trucks and vans GM still uses a mechanical fan. So, yes, I run a shroud with my E-fans. Fan kits made for our trucks always have a shroud included with them. Universal fans that zip-tie to the radiator won't cool quite as well as those with a shroud since only one section of radiator is actually cooling the fluids efficiently.

I'm running 98-2001 camaro E-fan with the Nelson wiring harness and tune. I got the E-fan from ebay no shroud, and the shroud on my V6 is now on a friends El Camino. Sooo I guess I'll be on the hunt for a V8 shroud.....

Here is a picture of my setup. I took the mech fan off after this picture was taken.

a factory shroud won't do you much good. Get someone to bend you up an aluminum box about 1" deep to cover the radiator and then put your fans on it.

The only and big issue with the aluminum box is that when I smog it, the smog shop will flag it..... I just got the Cail smog reff to sign off on the engine swap.....

    What temps are you seeing?

I run the larger 34" core radiator with 2006 Tahoe fans on my 93 and it never exceeds 200 degrees. I can't imagine them flagging it for a non-emissions related item.

Anything under the hood that doesn't look stock, they will flag. No big deal if I want to do all the extra paperwork to get a new title. The way the reff did the swap was a huge favor to me. He signed off on it as if I swapped a V8 with a V8. California wants you to get a new title as if you just built the truck from the ground up.
