Never tuned, but want to learn

I've never really tuned anything but I have a basic understanding of how it all works. I watched my tuner when he tuned my truck using HP Tuners back in Cali and it looks like some VERY complicated stuff. I'm just looking for some general info about tuning, such as:

    adjusting fuel trim
    triggering power enrichment
    adjusting timing
    shift points

I've heard of some orginazation hosting classes in various places that teach tuning as well, just never seen anything of the sort. Pictures and computer snap shots of tuning would be great if anyone's got 'em.

HPT does not sell any books.
Greg Bannish, The Tuning School, and others sell books, DVDs, classes etc.

There is this, probably pretty expensive though. On top of buying the software. And laptop if you don't already have one. http://www.thetuningschool.com/

you can learn on your own, just take small steps and understand what you're changing and how it will affect the truck.

You could do it with a desktop if you have one in your garage. The scanning module can run without a laptop hooked to it once you configure it to your truck.

What is the difference between the standard and professional? Amount of things supported? Which one for a beginner/home use only?

WOW, thanks for all the info guys. I should be getting a laptop here soon, provided I can sell some of my parts - injectors, coils, manifolds, converter, rockers, etc. I need a laptop for school anyways, ha. But so far I'm seeing some great links. Thanks a lot guys and keep the info coming please. And Allen, I've learned plenty of things on my own but I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking at so I don't know what all I'd be changing.
