Ok I am kind of new to the wideband tuning thing. I really want to get a Nelson Tune when I get my Procharger installed. I have some questions though

    1. I want to ditch the FMU and get a custom tune but should I get 42ib injectors and who make a direct replacement fuel pump that will support a cam and procharger on a 5.3?

Also our the Nelson Tunes locked? Reason a local place that does dyno tuning if offering the Wideband commander. Could I get a Nelson tune have Allen control the timing, and trans stuff and get the A/F close but really dial it in with the Wideband tune?

Allen doesn't lock his programs in the PCM. Allen is cool that way. The best way to tune it up would be to take it to Allen and have him put it on the dyno for the tune and then a few drives down the road with the wideband to get the best tune. I am confident that Allen can send you a tune close enough for you to get going down the road but I would suggest you go to his shop for a hands on tune. As for fuel pumps, a Walbro 340 will provide all the fuel you will ever need. I haven't done anything with forced induction so I could even begin to suggest what size injectors. It all has to do with how much boost, what size of engine, how much static compression you're running, how well the exhaust will flow, how much cam you have and how aggressive of a tune you desire. Allen can make your stock PCM dance if that is what you desire. Allen uses LS1Edit, as far as I know, to tune all the engine controls within the PCM. He will advance or retard the timing as needed for your application. The FMU that came with your FI kit will not be needed if you can get down to San Antonio for the hands on tune.

i think you will have to tal to allen himself. i think that he does in fact lock some tunes. he will let you know on that subject. and i am sure he can dial it in very close.

Walbro makes an in-tank fuel pump that will replace the stock pump. However, you might not need it. I am using the 43lb marine injectors and the stock fuel pump. Allen tuned my computer perfectly to handle the whipple charger and LS6 cam.
No more trucks, but this is what I used to have. 2000 GMC Sierra, 6.0L-LQ4, Built 4L60, LS6 Cam, The Other Guys Headers, 3 inch exhaust and 7 chamber flowmaster, 43lb injectors, Nelson Tuning, Drop - 3/4 McGaughys Spindles, Bell Tech Shackles & Hangers. Best time 13.59 @ 106

Yeah, definitely talk to Allen about your tune. He will need to know how you intend to run your engine. If you are running minimal boost and just driving on highways only not much of a program will be required. If its for an all out performance vehicle and you want the most out of it and you're pushing the boost to the limit then other things come into play. If you are planning on buying a copy of HPTuners or LS1Edit I would definitely make sure he does not lock the PCM. I have not heard of a reason for locking the PCM other than to keep people from tweaking the tune. Our local N.Texas tuning guru locks all his tunes. He claims it's for the simple reason to keep the little fingers out of it. It also means that any tweak go directly through him and he gets paid any time he touches the PCM. At least Allen gives free updates, other than shipping costs.
