    Advice on Trailer Purchase

Need a trailer for peace of mind on the occasional long distance race. Anything to look for or avoid in a car hauler? Types, brands, accesories, builders in Houston, etc. Need 5,000 pound rating at a minimum.

Could have paid for one by now with the car rental fees Ive racked up on all the trips back and forth to San Antonio (ie Nelson Performance). Oh well, cheap hobbies tend to bore me

A friend of mine can get the tilt car haulers that are super nice for pretty cheap...around the 4-5K range. If you like I can pm you his number and info...These are also fully diamond plated floors and lights with tool boxes...super nice...

Thanks for the replies guys. Im really just looking for a basic car trailer to occasionally tow my truck around. Looking to spend as little as possible but want to ensure I buy something that will safely and reliably get the job done.

VeI've got a 24' cargo south car hauler and love it! It is a cheaper brand, the trailer new was less than 5k, but it's still a great trailer.

I have owned two car haulers, one was a dual 3500lb and the other dual 7500lb axles. I really hit on both ends of where I should of been and just bought the one with dual 5400lb but with the 7.5ks we haul anything and everything from tractors to a 10k+ car audio competition van without a problem.

The only thing I can stress is get one with the bulldog coupler and strong fenders (not of that rolled sheetmetal crap they WILL get bent all to hell), other things that are nice features but not required fold up ramps, d rings, room to put a toolbox on the tongue I coudl go on and on with them

ive got a 18' back 40 trailer... i think its the top hat brand, anyways its a 7k trailer, and works great. if i bought another one it would have metal deck rather than wood.

The best advice I have ever heard:... Only take B( . Y . )ST advice from someone that is CURRENTLY running a turbo setup close to, or bigger than what you want......

Get ahold of whatever weekly-type publications for farmers you have around there. In my area, it's the Midwest Messenger.

Tons of cheap stuff to be had from ads by farmers, or companies selling to them. I seem to remember seeing 18' dual-axle car trailers with dovetails for $1500-$2000. Don't know what axle rating that is or what type of brakes though.

i live in the trailer capitol of the world. 4 manufactures in town, and less than an hour away there are 12 builders there, one of which is Big Tex.

IMO always get one with a metal deck, too many lights rather than not enough, and bulldog coupler.
