Let's see......$250 for gaskets, probably $300 for valves, $170 for comp 918 springs, $170 for titanium retainers, $450 for a retail price comp cam, $400 to tune up after the new cam and probably about 10 hours to do all the work at maybe $80 an hour. The price is pretty close for retail work. Doing it yourself and searching around for discount prices will cut your price to about one-half.
You forgot the NX 125 wet kit installed for $700.
Lets see, if we go by Greg's price estimates which sounds fairly close, then everything he mentioned plus the $700 wet kit, outta bring us to about $2440. Now thats WITHOUT the $80 per hour labor charge. You add that for 10 hrs of labor and the total comes to around $3240. Now even if I left the NX kit out and just added the price of parts alone to install that cam, it would come to $1740 plus the cost of labor, which figured by Greg's estimate of $80 pr/hr X 10 hrs would bring the cam install to $2540.
Sooooo, according to all these figures.........$2200 for cam install, sounds about right. But as Greg said, do it yourself and you could save about $1000. Unless, your like me and almost completely ignorant of cam installing
But even then, I would personally buy all the parts I needed and bring them to the mechanic for install, which would save me all the retail overhead costs.
