    just quit running

my buddy has an 06 vortec max. yesterday it just quit running. He thought the altenator was bad and it was when he had it tested. Once he replaced it the truck started and ran for 5 seconds. Now it wont start but cranks. battary tests fine. the fuel pump isnt coming on. he checked all fuses and replaced the relay for pump. Anyone had a problem like this? any help would be great. thanks

Gently beat the tank on the underside, if pump turns on...bad pump.

Does the gear indicators and SES light come on with the key in on (not in start)?

If not, check the small black with white stripe wire behind the intake on top of the block near the oil pressure sensor on the passenger side. Common rodent chewed wire that is the PCM ground.

Listen for the pump on key on at the filler with the cap off as suggested before. Yes, the tank smack works too.

is the security light on? May have to relearn the security system from the BCM to the PCM, syncronize them.

replaced pump. truck started and ran for five min then cut out and wouldnt restart. fuel pump wasnt coming on again so he got another pump just to make sure that wasnt the issue. Still wont start. both pumps were from dealership. the bed is still off.

try straight wiring the pump to by pass all the electrical from the computer and wiring down the frame. if it pumps and runs then you will need to start on electric trouble shooting but if it doesn't pump then the pump is definitely bad and could be shorting out from a grounding out wire or something like that.
