    Stinger Wires?

Are Stinger wires good? The shop I am probably getting to install my system uses Stinger. Also they gave me a price est. of $1,400 to install my system, I have an Alpine Type X 12" sub, Alpine MRD 1005 monoblock amp, and a Tsunami 5 farad cap, the price includes a Pioneer indash screen, all wiring, custom built ported box, all installed. What do you think about that price?

Kinda sounds a little high depending on the screen. Stinger is generaly pretty good stuff. It's the scosche wal mart junk that you want to stay away from. It also depends on what line of stinger. If I remember correctly they have a few lines from basic which is ok to pro which is over the standard as far as guage goes. If it's a good shop you should be ok. I have always used stinger pro or Rockford wires in my installs and I am a PICKY and METICULOUS SOB.

Which indash screen? Pioneer makes some as cheap as $400 and some more than $1000. Also, what are the specs on the box. "Custom" could mean a couple teenagers getting a hold of some MDF and liquid nails at home depot.

The shop shouldn't charge you more than $250 in labor. Anything more than that is rape in my opinion.

man, I used to charge 250 for a ported dual 12 box. I would think for the whole system the labor should be around 250-300 since it's a single box. 100 or so for wiring depending on quality of rcas. And about 35-115 for radio install accessories depending on vehicle yr and model and options you want. Random's just about right on the buttons.

Not sure what series, but it is the one that's flexible. The screen is like $550, they use 3/4" MDF for their boxes. My truck is an 08 Chevy BTW.

MDF is like $20 a sheet at Home Depot. Heck if you come into the store I work at I'll sell it to you for $4 a sheet. The price difference between 1/2,5/8, and 3/4 is like $2.

As far as the screen, if I were you I'd be interested to know the model number. They could be selling you a unit that retailed for $550 but the you're buying is a 2006 refurbished model.

I'm a skeptic so I always like to be positive I know what I'm getting. Just being honest. I don't like seeing people's money not being well spent. I know I work hard for mine I'm sure you do too!

    When it comes to wiring....

WIRE IS WIRE. None of it is any better than the rest. The gauge is the only thing that matters. That price is ridiculously high. I'd build you a ported box for 150$ even, including supplies. Install is cake and if you're decent at any sort of wiring I would attempt it yourself.

Edit, what Alpine sub are you running? Type R? Type X? I'd run the R IMHO.

For shizzle. Pl4yboy is right about wire is wire, well kinda, the cheaper stuff is usually smaller guage. A lot of that scosche junk says it's 4 awg but when you look at the end the insulation is cheap and makes up for half of the diameter. When you look at the stinger, rockdford, jl, kicker, etc. The wire is either standard size or bigger. Basically what I'm saying is that the cheaper 4awg is about the same size as the better 8awg. 3/4" mdf is pretty much industry standard unless it's for tight applications.
