Lost 4th, but it came back?

I was headed back home on a 100 mile trip with the converter locking and unlocking. Or so I think thats what it is. I made it half way and stopped and went to go again and noticed I had no 4th gear. However after I got to town and parked the truck for awhile I got it back. But on the way home it went away again. Any ideas? Im so sick of this. I am about to get a FLT or an 80e.

Bad seal on the 2-4 servo piston, 2-4 band jumping off the pin, swapped 2-4 band apply pin to wrong length. Debris in the valve body. Smoked 3-4 clutches.

count out the smoked 3-4 clutches if he still has third. Sounds like its flakey though. Bad noid? Servo cover snap ring not seated properly causing binding?

Oh man they'll act all in 4th and no noticeable crap in 3rd unless it's on a chassis dyno when the 3-4 is dead. A bad noid would cause another gear to be gone two as there are two noids (for shifting up) and 4 gears.

I was wondering if it was something to do with the band.

I just thought it was weird how it came back. I also managed to get my check engine light to come on during all of this. Hopefully when I scan it tommorow it will give me some idea of whats wrong.

    My codes were a P0135 and a P1870.

The P1870 explains my loss of 4th. Now I just need to figure out why I have this code.
