Ok, New to ls1truck.com and chevy for that matter. I have a 99 1500 rcsb
4x4 with the 4.8l auto. Motor just went south the other day. I want to do a 6.0l swap. My question is; What year 6.0l do I need. I know the PCM will need to be flashed. Just need to know what year Motor to look for. This is a DD so I cant have to much down time on this. Thanks in advance.
You should look for a 2002 and newer 6L. Be wary of any engines that have a flat flexplate, not dished. If no flexplate, be sure the trans end of the crankshaft does not stick out of the cover about 1/2", a dead giveaway that its a early 6L. Also, avoid 6l engines with iron heads.

2001 was the first year they changed the crank and they have aluminum heads
what are the 2001 v. 2002 differences?
they went to the drive by wire in 02.
but if youre cable driven you can always stay cable driven, use your intake and tb off the 4.8. its a pretty simple swap once you find the correct motor youre wanting
