    Need some transmission help

Have an 84 silverado with a th350. I have a 700r4 out of a four wheel drive that would like to put in it if possible, or would i need to buy a th400?? Is there a way to wire the overdrive gear into a toggle switch or something to that nature where you wouldnt need the computer to shift into overdrive?

A 700 is not controlled by a computer other than the TCC you can wire up yourself. If the truck it's going into is 2WD you'll need to change the output shaft and extension housing to the 2WD style. A 400 is another story all together. It's not any more of a direct bolt in than the 700 and has only three gears like the 350.

th400 would take a 99-01 long crank 6L or add a crank spacer, flat flywheel and longer bolts to make it old style. Then you need a larger yoke for the 400, crossmember relocation likely, and possible shortening of the driveshaft. The PCM would need a digital speed signal from the output shaft so you'd need something like a Dakota Digital speed encoder. Next you'd need to wire 12v to the TCC solenoid and a grounding switch on the dash or gear selector to turn it on. Get power for the TCC from the brake switch, the wire that loses power when you press the brake, so it will unlock when you decelerate.

the th-400 will be a lot stronger but will also use more gas and take more power away.

400's are tough as nails. If you can deal with only three speeds?
