Is this a Good Deal on a Cam Install??

    CAM SPECIAL!

    Custom ground Cam
    Patriot extreme dual Springs
    Hardened pushrods
    LS2 timing chain
    All gaskets/fluids
    Fully installed and tuned
For $1899 +tax (save $200 over normal price)
    +100 for Vette's.
Options are ported oil pump, underdrive pulley, ported TB -call

This is from a local shop that I have been looking at. I don't think they are a sponsor so I didn't mention the name but they have a pretty good reputation. I would love to learn how to do this myself but I don't have the tools or garage.

A very general rule is parts should be about 45% of the total. So use the internet to get parts prices and then use algebra to find out how good a deal it is....

I would say that price is not out in left field for a shop in your region. You might not have much competition as far as speed shops go up there. Usually regular repair shops wont touch this kind of work, so that might not be an option. You could however find a mechanic that is willing to do this for you on the side. Sux you are not closer, I think we have someone in every major city in TX that could help you do it. If you take the project on yourself make sure the pulley puller you get is of good quality or you will be cussing like a sailor for hours! The only special tools you need are the pulley puller and head on valve spring compressor. Ohh and a hacked up compression tester with an air compressor to hold the valves up while you change springs.
