Not only do they build fantastic exhaust systems, have EXCELLENT personnel, but they are built right here in ONTARIO!
I don't know about you, but I have always been one to support the folks at home before I buy elsewhere. I just wish I had of known about MBRP before I purchased my Magnaflow in April of last year.
Although Magnaflow can make a decent exhaust, I now feel confident to say that the MBRP has take it's place as my new favourite exhaust system brand.
I originally purchased the Magnaflow, because of the name, and it's popularity, not because of any tests or research. I got the dual kit, because I LOVE the look of a dual out kit. I am also quite aware I don't get any performance gains with a dual out. It's just another bit of weight in extra pipe.
But in the last 12 months of running the Magnaflow (I installed it at the beginning of May 2007), obviously you can hear I had an aftermarket exhaust, but it still had the 4 cylinder, raspy sound to it sometimes.
Now, with this MBRP, by no means do I hear 4 cylinder at any time. It sounds like performance all the way through. After the install at the MBRP facilities, I took it for a boot on the highway, hitting red line on every gear before shifting. The sound is consistent all the way through. Even at the higher RPM's!
One thing that bothered the hell out of me about the Magnaflow, was when down shifting on an off ramp, or elsewhere, when I would be in second gear, and around 60 km/h, the drone was completely unbearable. Have you ever been in a vehicle with a large subwoofer system, and when a bass rift hits, and you try to speak, you seriously can't hear yourself? Well that's what the Magnaflow did, the drone was so bad at a couple ranges, there was no way for anyone in the truck to carry on a conversation. Heck, the drone even overpowered the stereo system I have at times.
I can seriously replicate the drone at any time, not that I wanted to, but after using the exhaust for the year, I figured out how to make it happen. Why am I telling you all this? Well, during the testing of my new MBRP exhaust yesterday after installation, and during my two and a half hour ride home, I tried desperately to replicate the drone the same way I would with the Magnaflow. There was no way... The down shifting noise was consistent the whole way down in speed. No annoying drone at any one point in the slow down. That excited me.
Like many other times, on the two and a half ride up to the MBRP plant, I could find myself noticing my exhaust sounds easily. But with the MBRP and the two and a half hour ride home, I could only hear it when I wanted to think about it. I live by cruise control, and when on a straight, it definitely sounded better than a stock exhaust, but it was by no means annoying like some other systems we hear out there today. When I would come up to a hill of sorts, and the cruise control would work a little harder to maintain the speed, you would obviously hear the exhaust a little more. But as with the cruising on a flat, it was nice to hear it was there, but even better to hear it wasn't annoying.
There has been quite a few time where I have been on the phone with Zero while he is in his truck, running Flowmasters, and I have commented on how all I can hear is his exhaust. I called Jennifer on my way home yesterday, while on a straight, and asked her not to speak for a second, I wouldn't too, and asked if she could hear the MBRP exhaust. It wasn't until the truck started to clime a hill that she said she can hear the exhaust. Which was music to my ears.
The President of MBRP said it perfectly yesterday, when he said the sound is one that will definitely turn heads, and let people know there is a performance exhaust there, but won't have them turn their heads because of a loud annoying sounds you may get from other brands.
One thing I loved about it too, is that every MBRP kit comes with a free dual walled stainless tip. Unlike the magnaflow I had, which just had the end of their pipes expanded to 3" and polished/shined up.
On the way home, some Ontario Cobalt Club friends of mine were having a meet, so I stopped in to show off the new goods. I parked at the end of a row of the Cobalt’s, and walked over to the crowd. More than half knew where I was today, so they asked how it went, then we headed over to hear the new exhaust. No word of a lie, within 3 seconds of the truck running, numerous people instantly commented on how it definitely sounds more “throaty” to that of the Magnaflow’s. Giving it more of a performance sound, than a “4 cylinder with a muffler” sound. Even those who showed up later than me, and wanted to hear it, made very similar, if not the same comments those did when I first started it up. Their opinions aren’t the main cause for what I do, but they do have some meaning for me, and when they noticed right away about the better sound, it sure did feel good to hear them say it.
Overall, all my vehicles will have a MBRP exhaust from here on in.
