    Next Step on the truck

Ill be selling my Z71 soon and that will make me totally debt free besides the truck note which Im already making almost double payments so I dont feel bad about dropping some big coin on the truck while still paying a note. I can do one big thing within the next couple months on it and the other will have to wait till tax return next year. The two major mods I want to do is a built trans and the suspension lift. The suspension lift isnt necessary but would make for a very nice riding truck. Right now with the bars cranked it rides alright but not nearly where I would like it to be. I would be doing a 4-6" cognito lift with all the steering upgrades, deaver springs in the rear, sways front and rear, with an airbag setup in the rear for when Im hauling and compensate for the soft rear springs. The other is doing the built trans. Doing the built trans would allow me to throw the "big" tune in it and have a 7K# truck on 35s in the high 12s. The trans isnt hurt right now since I have a small tune in it but it runs pretty damn good right now for what it is. Its probably a mid 14 second truck on the 35s. I have a transgo jr kit in the garage that Ill be putting in within the next couple weeks which will allow me to juice up the tune slightly(+60ish hp). So that should net me a LOW 14 second maybe high 13 second truck on 35s. Having the built trans and all that power would be a blast but with the stock suspension cranked I cant do any 4hi launches since the angles are too steep and Ill bend tie rods so strictly 2wd fun without the lift. Im leaning towards the lift more right now since it would make the truck alot nicer to drive and it already has plenty of power but I know that will change the first time I race somebody and barely lose and think if I would have had the big tune in I could have beaten them. To clarify the truck doesnt ride bad now it just has a ton of room for improvement. Cost wise they are within a couple hundred bucks of each other so cost isnt a deciding factor in this. So vote on the pole, Im interested in the comments.

The trans that is in the truck will be taken apart and rebuilt. Casey23 on here will be doing the removal/rebuild/install of the trans since Im too lazy to pull that big mofo out myself, the Z71 has worn me out on wrenching.

Oh ok that makes sense. I thought you would just be trying to get a new rebuilt shell and sending in your old core somewhere. Well damn. How much longer you think the tranny will hold if you decide to do a lift that you have wanting to do?

Upgrade the trans first before you break it or put undo wear on it while playing around. Screw it up and you'll double the cost of the upgrade.

The Allisons dont break hard parts until good clutches are put in there. If its stock the clutches get toasted quick with high power so its not going to break anything thats going to cost additional money. Its not like teh 60es that break input drums and planets.

Im going with the suncoast kit, they have a good track record and I like the 1058 converter. And Casey knows his stuff with these trans so I trust them and I also dont want to mess with the install. Why would you upgrade the turbo? The stock turbo and injectors are good to 550rwhp and over 1100ft-lbs of tq and at that point you are on the edge of hurting the motor and needing a built one. Also their tunes are just like mail order tunes, they are alright but not good enough. I have efilive to do anything I want now I just need to learn how to use all the tables.
