    Hello from nothern CA.

I own an 03 Z71 Tahoe. It's my daily driver and will be used to tow a 6,000 lb. travel trailer in the future.

I'm planning to swap in a LQ4 or LQ9 6.0 & 4L65-E transmission for my current 5.3 & 4L60-E. I figure this is the simpliest way to gain much needed low-midrange torque and retain factory reliability.

Anybody know a good sourse for a 6.0 & trans?

    Thanks,

Junk yard, but by the time you get the 6.0 swaped in you car it would have probably be chaeper to buy a blower and youll have more power.

A blower is fine for a "hot-rod" truck but worthless for pulling a trailer.

Done correctly an engine-transmission swap should be more cost effective than anything I could do to my 5.3. I'll end up with a stronger/more powerful engine-transmission combination with OEM reliability.

You'd be better off selling it and buying a diesel with the allison transmission. Just my opinion. Not to mention you can do some easy performance mods to the new GM diesels. There is nothing better than torque for pulling and the 6.0 will only have 1/2 of what you will have with the diesel plus the diesel gets better fuel mileage when towing.

Im sure a radix blower will have no problem pulling a trailer, I know alot of people that have went to blowers for more towing power. radix blowers have alot of low end wich helps out alot for towing. I believe radix has a power train warrenty on the blower to, i would look in to it. Dealership will charge you a whole lot of money for a 6.0 and tranny i knwo they want 1600 for a stock 4l60. Im almost positive magnacharger has a power train warrnety i know whipple does.

If that's what I wanted to do I'd do it! I've owned 2 different Powerstroke diesel powered Super Duty Fords and they were great trucks.

My Tahoe is a much better "daily driver" than either of the Super Dutys were. Much simplier maintenance and no looking around for clean diesel fuel.

I'm an old street racer and like to tinker with my vehicles. Problem is I've had my fill of unreliable street driven vehicles and want no part of one as my daily driver. My Tahoe has plenty of power for normal usage and based on previous experience (I owned a 2000 Silverado with a 5.3 that I used for a tow vehicle) will do just fine as a tow vehicle...even stock.

If I can find an 03 6.0 & 4L65-E transmission out of a Denali or a Escalade I'm going to buy it and swap it into my Tahoe. In theory it should be a "plug & play" swap. With any luck I should be able to sell my 5.3 & 4L60-E and recoup most of the cost of the 6.0.

Are you looking to buy somthing from a junk yard from like a truck that has been wrecked or are you looking to buy it from the dealer. You could get a 6.0 block and just get pistons for it. Every thing elese is interchangable from your 5.3 to your 6.0. I know of a place in fresno ca that specializes just in wrecked new cars. Last time i went down there they had about 5 6.0s with trannys sitting on stands. let me knwo and i can get you the number

Tinkering with a monster diesel is cool. If you are stuck on the gas engine, why not do a 4l80e for a tranny instead. That's a tough tranny.
