Aluminum vs. Cast Iron weigh difference

    For inquiring minds...

The weight of an iron GenIII block is 210.4 lbs
    Aluminum LS1 is 92.5 lbs

The weight of one iron GenIII cylinder head is 43.2 lbs
Aluminum GenIII head is 18.9 lbs

    where'd you get those weights?

I weigh'd an Iron block and an Alum. block on the same scale and got about an 86# difference between the two.

Got the numbers directly from GM. Check your scales.

Just about every engine builder I've seen post numbers have had from 87-92# difference between the two. thats a big difference from 119.

It is from GM's official engine service manual. They got the exact numbers from somewhere. You're probably right, GM Certified Technology Group doesn't know anything and they like to publish misinformation.

i'm just going by what i've seen/done personally and what other very experienced builders say. Erik Koenig from HKE told me my Iron 6.0L block weigh'd exactly 92# more than the Aluminum block I took him also. Take it for what it is.

The documentation doesn't say which iron block they weighed but did document that the aluminum block is the LS1.

    I like them light personally.

Mainly cause it is easier to shave pounds off the engine than my fat a$$.
