    Unhappy I got killed

I drive a 04 silverado rcsb 4.8 with a 5speed it has headers, cold air intake, dual exhaust and 3.73 w/ locking rear end and I got destroyed by a stock 05 rcsb with a 4.8. I had a good pull on him until third gear. Do these nv3500's just have terrible gearing or could it be something else? I am hoping I can save the cash to buy me a t56 soon. But if I were to just throw a cam in it and tune it for the time being would I be able to finally get a good pull in third gear? Just curious if any of y'all have come across this.

I use to smoke corvettes in a POS mustang gt. Only cause I could drive better. At the time I could not drive for crap .. .. . . .Actually I still can't drive. . . . . . .. . . driving might be a small issue. let him drive your truck you drive his and see who wins.

Stick shift against an automatic, the automatic wins if both are even simply due to the fact that it's consistant. Unless you're running a racing manual transmission with straight cut gears that doesn't require you to clutch between shifts you're losing time every time you shift. Your heavier truck is going to be slower than a regular cab if you compare apples to apples just because of the mass your engine has to move.

There shouldn't be a reason why you lost...you have a few mods which would overcompensate for the tranny shifting times... Since you have the manual, you can launch it quicker--given the fact that you can float the RPM's around 2500-3000 and feather-drop the clutch. Like Zeake said, the person with the 5-speed needs to know how to drive it really well to get the best performance out of it... We aren't saying you can't drive at all, it's just that you have to be good at launching it drop a dig...from there, it's shifting from gear to gear as fast as you can... I would not recommend power shifting. It will get you there faster, but you will wear out your tranny and clutch a lot faster...

Hell I'll be the first to admit I'm new to driving the 5 speed and I am by no means a great or even a good driver. But I got a better launch and had about 3 lengths when I was about 5k in 2nd gear, but once I was in 3rd gear I was no longer pulling my rpm's wouldn't climb.
I think I need some driving lessons and some more power...

    dont feel so bad....

lol, I use to try racing a few people in my extended cab 2.2L 5 speed s10 speedshifting dumping the clutch off digs... I was always under the impression it sounded and felt like it was going somewhere but i was so saddenly mistaken. One day i saw a old man around his 60's on a electric scooter on the sidewalk rolling faster then my truck was moving at WOT.... now thats bad...

I want to race you in my silvy.. I think it would be a good race.....

Cool, We're usually out there until close to 9 then we all load up and go to hooters on 26 and 820... Just look for a bunch of lowered and bagged trucks in the parking lot if you do make it out.

I wont be out there this week Aug 16th
(which is tomorrow) ...i'm going to be at kennedale finally going to see how much my posi and stall helped me..
