Thumbs up

My wifes 03 fuel pump went bad. I am installing the new one today and it came with a new connector. the wires from the factory r 2.black, 1.gray,1.purple that are on the truck. Now the new connector has 1.gray, 1.purple, 1.black, 1.orange/black. I know where the other wires go my question is were does the orange/black one go? I don't want to wire it up wrong and not have a truck.

Yeah, its a stock factory replacement...

I bet you that the factory had the orange/black, it's just that the coloring has corroded or the jacket has become brittle and cracked...peel back the wiring harness on the truck and see what you can find out....

Strip the wires back from the male connector (from your truck) and see to which port the wires go...then try and match that up with the new female connector (from the new fuel pump). Try and make it all line up...

    I don't know...last time I did a fuel pump, it was on a 97, and the connectors were the same---it was plug-and-play..

Are you going to have to splice into the truck harness and wire the new one to it??? If you do, then hook it up how you think, then start it...if it doesn't work, just switch those two wires around..it will work for sure once you figure out which way it is suppose to go. If you are not that brave, call a service tech at a dealer.

Get in touch with Allen or Billy. With the Walbro you need some additional wiring/adapters/etc. to make the conversion.

Billy's number is 817-703-3750. If he doesn't answer have a pen ready for the alternate number and try that as well. Or call Allen.

Sounds to me like he is replacing a complete GM fuel pump/sender assembly with updated connector and new components. Some of the older vehicles shorted out the connectors due to high resistance in the connectors, so they were revised to larger connections. I had to splice a new connector into the harness on my Astro because of the bad setup. My kit came with very thorough instructions on how to do the splicing.
