well in the process of doing the 5.3 to 6.0 swap in my friends truck we came across a problem, the 5.3 flywheel don't match with the starter we had to flip the flywheel backwards and put shims in it, just to turn the motor over while it was outside the truck, i called RedHearBeat and he said that the 99-01 6.0 cranks are a little longer and i need a new flywheel for that year, sounds good but my question is now do i need a new starter or will that one work too.

It's the same starter. Just get the flywheel for a 2000 model truck with a 60e transmission.

The dished 4L60e flex plate is GM pn 12580709 according to the S&P catalog. Its a Camara/TA flex plate that the PN comes from. I'm not sure if it's exactly what you guys need though.

Another PN for the flexplates is the 12563136 and it is the one they suggest using for a early year model 4L60e, 700r4 or 400-350 transmissions. That must be the 6 bolt hole flywheel with dual bolt patterns.

If that engine doesnt have the removable spacer it will not bolt up to a 4l60E.. You will have to space the flywheel out somehow.. 99-00 have a longer crank to mate up with the 4l80E where as GM used a shorter crank in the 01+ and put a spacer in there for it to mate up.. I just put a 01 in and all I had to do was remove the spacer and everything went together as normal..

well see i got the flywheel to work fine on the engine stand, but to bolt the converter up to it i would have to use longer bolts with some spacers, what i did is turn the flywheel around backwards and puts shims between the block and flywheel, the block doesn't have a removable spacer from what i see

Does the back of your motor look like this??

If it does it wont bolt up to the 4l60e without some kind of spacer.. you can use longer bolts but its just going to drive the the crank into the converter..

Awesome, so there was a spacer on the crank after all? That made life much easier.
