I'd call Billy at TRTTurbo a call and work with him. He can get everything you need for great prices. He's done a few 408s and knows what works. If you just want parts he can help you out, also. I think if you try the 5.3L heads on a 408 the compression is going to be like 12:1. He can let you know for sure.

you would choke the motor to death with 5.3 heads. You need heads to let it breath; 2.08s/1.6 set up for larger bore motors. Also, for example with Wiseco pistons, K394A3 -8cc and 64cc heads, you will be a 11.2 ish compression. Thats plenty for the street or shall I say about the limit for pump gas.
The Z06 cam is not the way to go. I assume you are doing it for power. You will need a much larger cam in the 240's,
.600 and 112- 115. The larger lsa will yeild a little less power, but not much and be more driveable. You can have a good running 500rwhp 408 that will take much more.

damn, alright well i was looking for more compression anyway but i wasnt thinking that much haha. and i already got the 5.3 heads. is there anyway porting and polishing would help? hey trttrbo do you have a shop in arlington? oh yea and i had a question abt the transmission, will the half bell housing bolt up to the lq9? or will i have to change the housings out? (cant remember if i already asked this) haha thanks guys. oh and redheartbeat you were right about the engine stand bolts.

You can do more compression, but do you want to run pump gas?
If they are standard 5.3 heads, I would just sell them. You will need good heads. Depending on $$, Patriots are less; AFR, and ETs are expensive. What is your goal anyway?
Yes, we are in Arlington 2 miles north of I-20 on Cooper.
Unless you have a built tranny, it will need to have a performance rebuild.

nah its not really built but i gotta a good friend that will help me on that. yea i want to run on pump gas, but i also want some serious power atleast 500rwhp. im doing a 408 but i wanted to do it on somewhat of a budget already got a 6l bare block ($350) and im takin it to a friend to get it bored ($80). i know i was gonna put some serious money into internals and valvetrain. i just didnt want to spend a shit load on bare heads. how abt 317 heads? if the 6l heads will work what will need to be done to them if anything at all.

Buy the L92 heads and intake assembly. The valves flow 300+, comparable to any performance valve job. The heads are under $400 each new, the intake about $550 with TB, fuel rails and injectors. Sell the 317 heads to offset some of the expenses.

ok well if i didnt go that route could i use the ls6, ls2, 317 heads. could i do that and achieve at least something close to my desired hp/tq

Of course you realize the 500 RWHP is almost 600 at the crank. You're going to need some deep pockets to hit that goal. You won't be doing that on a budget.![]()
