Thread: bad weekend

It has been snowing or raining up here for the last several weeks. Yesterday was the first nice day we've had in a while, and EVERYONE brought their hotrods out to play. I had several good races, but one of them ended badly. I was in the middle of a run, when I heard it backfire and lost alot of power. I immediately got off the throttle, and it would backfire and sputter every time I gave it gas. I limped it home, and pulled the plugs this morning and found the infamous #7 was covered in oil. I took delivery of a bone stock longblock this morning with 21k miles on it. I'm just going to swap the whipple on it and drop it in.

I limped it over to my friend's shop this morning, and we redid the exhaust. It now has 3" pipes going into a 5x11x22 magnaflow, with a single 4" outlet. Its hard to tell what I gained, seeing as how it's only running on 7 cylinders and all. I hope to swap the new motor in as early as next weekend, but we'll see how it goes.

Tough luck Dude. #7, what the hell is wrong with that thing? The only flaw of the Gen3 engine and it only shows up in nitrous and boosted applications. At least you were having fun when it blew and was able to limp it home. I keep AAA just because I love to give the engine hell. Get the platinum version of AAA and it's a free 300 mile tow home if you ever need it. Best $75 a year a person can pay.

no pics yet. I'll snap a few when we tear it down.

Would it be worth my time to get the LS6 intake? Is the LQ9 intake different than the LM7?

My insurance pays for all tows within 50 miles, I think. It's always funny explaining to the tow truck driver why a 3 year old tahoe is being towed to the shop.

I knew it was just a matter of time before it went. I beat the piss out of this thing every weekend. I did all of this to have fun, and that's what I do. I was already planning a motor build. I saw the drivetrain pop up on craigslist the day before, so I jumped on it. It was VERY cheap, so I was just planning on selling it to make some money. I already had a lq4 that I was going to build later this summer, but this is much cleaner, so I'm going to use it instead. Now I'm going to sell the tranny and t-case to help fund an 80e swap a couple months down the road. I don't think the level 5 65e will like what I have planned for later this summer. I plan on being WAY past their recommended 500hp limit.

Do you guys have any advice on intakes?

I have always been told that the best besides the stock truck intake would be the LS2 stuff, but thats alotta bit of coin for a minimal improvement.
