They said the same thing about the Cotton Valley and Hainesville shale. I have talked to a lot of people that have lived in and worked in west tx their whole lives. They say it slows down a little from time to time but it hasn't ever just stopped out here. But here it is primarily oil, they just burn off natural gas like it ain't nothing.

Dude, why are you limiting yourself to oilfield work? Right now aviation is taking off like a rocket. I work for Bell Helicopter and we're hiring college graduates like crazy that have unrelated degrees to aviation. I was laid off from oil patch work during one of the two month downturns and got a job a Bell that has opened the doors for my future, doors that were closed before because oil field work is like blacksmithing is to rocket science.

Because around here, there isn't much else. I really want to be able to raise my kids here in the next few years. If I limit myself to oilfield, I can always get a job here later on after I get my foot in the door and have more experience. This is where the last 4 generations of my family have lived and some people may call me crazy, but this is where I want my kids to grow up. I can always get a job at Spirit Aerosystems as my mom is HR there. They make good money, but go on strike constantly.

Kinda find that hard to believe, some of the technology that we work with in the subsea side is pretty much space age.

Right on! What field? Olympia? I know we've got some Shell stuff in the shop now; wellheads, running tools, support plates, etc. All Deepwater (ES) equipment. You still doing ROV?

Na its in the Bonga Field. Nope no more ROV's for me I am now a Sr. Mechanical Adviser for Shell Nigeria,(company man). This field isnt really that deep. Max 1100 meters. Shallow in comparison to the southern GOM.

That it is. We're right at the end of the 7 year cycle in the Aviation industry. Now's the time when everyone moves up a peg and all kinds of positions open up. I'm busting my ass trying to finish my CPL and get in on it.

The oilfield is awesome though. You don't have to know anybody, you don't have to have a degree, from what I have seen in my years you don't even have to be smart. You just have to be there.
