Sounds like to me a intake valve is sticking.

That's not what I'd call a backfire. Sounds more like an industrial toilet. There's a lot more there than the pop noise.
+1 on the indy toilet, not sure whats going there, but that engine sounds rough.

Is it just me or is there a severe amount of blow-by coming out of the oil fill/breather?
Did you by any chance do a compression check again? What did you end up doing for the 24x and 58x reluctor stuff... Didnt you end up running a lingenfelter box or am I thinking of something else..
Maybe its a fuel pump issue. All that throttle on/off you're doing is causing fuel surges in the fuel system and it may have caused a lean condition a few times.
