big block, actually. Same block as the 455. they use the same one for the 350, too.

400 is a small block. and if u want a 408, i know of a 408 long block out of a sprint car for $1500. has only been run for 20 minutes and never raced. i have a 400 small block in a 78 trans am that is bored .030 over.

    But he said Pontiac 400...

Some people call the 428 and 455 big blocks because of the larger main journals but there really is no small or big block Pontiac since like Greg said, the 326 350 389 400 428 455 (as well as the odd-ball earlier versions) all share the same deck height and bore spacing.

Not looking to buy any engines. Im just getting the engine, just trying to see if it bolt up to the truck without trimming or lengthening the driveshaft, or having to relocated the mounts.

Im pretty sure you'll have to move the engine mounts. My dad started to do the same in his 72 k20 and decided against it. It will be a lot of work but i say go for it, can't beat a pontiac engine just expensive to rebuild.

Doubt it'd have to be rebuilt. Its only got 80k on the clock. I'll probably just sell it.
