Thread: Head\Cam swap GTG

checked the plugs.. they are fine. #1 cylinders wire was hosed.. replaced it that ended the misfires on that cylinder.. but its still running rich.
the burn marks on the plug suggest the timing is off.

According to my VERY BASIC ability to read plugs...it's running rich with too much timing. The last couple threads are baked with black soot, and the timing mark on the ground strap was pretty close to the threads, we took pictures, but i doubt they'll do much good. The porcelain and everything looked fine, so I'm assuming idle/low rpm is alright. I know it's running rich, but not sure this would cause the problem unless the injectors are just going to 100% duty cycle at 3800 rpm. Like I said earlier, it feels like the truck is hitting a rev limiter. We put it in neutral going about 30, and it rev'd up to 6 grand just fine. Drove around in 1st and 2nd gear at 3600, was fine. Going downhill, can almost hit 4 grand before the 'limiter' effect kicks in.

Mike's going to upload a video so everyone can see exactly what's happening, but a cam would be wrong in neutral too, not just with load on engine. I'm assuming a table is wrong, or allen accidentally put 3800 instead of a 6800 or something for rev limiter. The idle is a TAD too low, so it's kinda of choppy, barely touching gas pedal smooths it out pretty nice. I read on ls1 tech to drill a small hole in the tb plate to compensate for this, I know on my dbc there is a adjustment screw, I didn't SEE anything on his dbw...assuming it's another minor tuning issue.

Way I see it, rough idle/ running rich are things that aren't ideal, but can be lived with. A plug/wire SHOULD have thrown a misfire code. The one wire wasn't perfect, but i don't think it had anything to do with the problems we're having.

mic on the phone's camera isnt the best.. the "rah rah rah rah" at the end is the misfiring.
had to stop recording or wreck .

p0172, po175, bank 1/ bank 2 rich condition. Bank 1 is missing the last header bolt, so there is a small exhaust leak, but shouldn't affect BOTH banks.
