If doing a short bed, there maybe be more than just cutting involved. Prob will have to clip a foot or so out of the frame before the rear leaf springs an shorten the wheel base.

To be quite honest, since you are planning this much work already, sell the long bed and buy a short bed. It's a bit of a waste(in my opinion) to shorten a longbed when there are so man shortbeds in that model. When it comes to 80's and older, shortening them is a little more practical. I just don't see it practical when there are thousands upon thousands of 88-98 short bed trucks running around. Not to mention you could probably sell the V8 longbed and get enough money to buy a shortbed V6 and do the swap and not be out near as much money and work. Either way you go, it should be a pretty cool project

cutting a long bed to make it a short bed seems like more work then it's worth.
you only have to cut the frame if you want AC as far as the swap. They do have aftermarket setups that move the ac to the top of the engine but i would recommend against that setup.
i had one and it has always been a source for problems, especially if you plan on a supercharger.
without a SC it may be fine but the bolts that hold it in place wear out and it starts to shake a lot. the positive side about them is the turnbuckle style belt tensioner with put the exact amount of tension you want on it.
