I always though that VVT (variable valve timing) just advanced/retarted timming as engine conditions and RPM's varied, and that the DOD (displacement on demand) was the system that drop x amount of cylinders while cruise to save on gas...

youre correct about the DOD, but VVT more or less adjusts the cam specs depending on, well, alot of different things. its V-Tec got GM. so yes, me and Zach have ricer trucks

Boo-erns, I don't know if I would go as far as to say "ricer truck"! I would just swap out the VVT sprocket for a fixed one and call it a day.
GET OUT OF HERE WITH THAT RICER MATH!

    haha, but we have V-TAAAK!!

most people that do cam swaps on these motors are getting rid of the VVT, but only cause its no new and no one understands it too well. but once it gets figured out it will for sure be a good thing!

So really all the 6.2's have vvt, it was the DOD that was the option IIRC. And the DOD, by way of oil/electricaly, disengages the lifters, closeing the valves and turning those cylinders into a air spring. That way there is still the power, but with no missfire.

you could swap it to the ls3 stuff but why bother, too much work unless your going to make big power imo.
