You are on the right track dude. That's more than I can say about myself at 20 and I think I'm doing very well for myself. I managed to screw up a good two years of building mine up. I got myself back on track at about 21-22 though.

What do you mean it doesn't do a damn thing for anybody? It allows you to get a loan and build credit whereas if you didn't have a cosigner you wouldn't be able to get the loan and build credit off of it. My loan that I had to have my dad cosign for me when I was 17 is on my credit report and helped me out tremendously.
Let me get this straight, you don't want your parents name on anything of yours because they will hold it over your head and you want it to be YOURS!! BUT...you'll let them BUY you a truck? I don't get it.

That's what my pops always did for me, so it could build my credit. He's a country-boy self made millionaire so I trust his financial advice......until it comes to buying/modding vehicles(extra vehicles that is).
It doesn't help the cosigner but it helps the person who needs the cosigner, which is the OP in this case stating that he can't get anything on his own because of no credit.

My parents paid for my truck, I still work 60 hours a week for not enough money. Doesn't mean he's a lazy prick.

Buy an alarm and leave it stock. Concentrate on buying a house and when it is paid off then get some play toys. Rent a couple of rooms to your buddys to help pay the note, but remember business is business. Don't buy anything on credit.
99RCSB Broke because I wasted thousands and thousands of dollars on my truck.

If you get an alarm, make sure the installer knows WTF he is doing for the sake of your truck.
