Your software was most likely off which is normal when you start modding an engine.

The only way to measure fuel economy is manually log the mileage and amount of fuel consumed. Sorry, but you didn't get 27 mpg unless it was for only a couple miles downhill.

Correct. It's just hard to believe you're ACTUALLY getting 7-10 MPG better than everyone else with the same mods.

I do log it, every tank if you want to see the excel sheet...it's going on 2 years, filling up about once a week, sometimes more. Miles on trip meter since fill up, divided by gallons of gas to re fill up. I stop filling up everytime when the pump clicks off, so it should be accurate within .25 of a tank or so.

Driving 45mpg our trucks barely use any gas. EVEN NOW with it being lifted, i can average 21-22 if i drive 45 the entire time. I am almost willing to bet my title that very few people on here would actually do a long trip at that slow of a speed to get an accurate rating. If i took the highway back from school going 65-75 I would get about 17mpg non-lifted...if i took backroads (at 2am with no other traffic) and followed 45mph speed limit i'd get about 26-27 with my 3.42 rear, and 245/70/16 or whatever stock is on a 2wd.
blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum

I'll vouch for ya shifty, my 99 would get 24-25 going 60 on 265/70/16's and it was a Z71 with a couple hundred pounds of audio and 265lbs of me(given there was very little wind. All I had was k&n drop in and a flowmaster 40, no computers, no logging. Just fill it up, count miles, and fill up again. This was when I was making weekly/bi-weekly runs to dfw. I have no idea how the truck did it, but it did.

You wouldn't believe how much knowledge is sitting up in this highly organized noggin on mine.

It might be believable. Was this measured going down to DFW or back up to the WF? I can see that happening on the way down, but on the way back up????

Just curious, but what kind of trips are you taking where you do 200 miles but don't drive faster than 55 mph? I understand your point, but it's like the old EPA fuel economy sheets, no one realistically ever sees those figures in normal situations.
