I launch in 4HI, and never take it off, cause I feel there's no time.

My last pass was 12.74 and so far I only can launch in 4hi, it is usless for me in 2HI, can spin the whole strip and never get traction. I'm on 24's with nitto 315-35-24

So for me at the strip the 4hi is a most.

In the street is also a need, cause, If a ricer just happen to tease me...and roll race, once the turbo hits, my truck goes butt to the left endagering everyone...so at street, if I wanna race, need 4hi too.

So long I have hit 115+ mph have not granead the front internals...YET !
I have pretty much done the same as this fella. I always launch in 4hi then switch to 2hi after the 1-2 shift. I accidently left it in 4wd on one run at the track and my trap speed was considerably lower. I have the electronic shift 4wd, seems to make a difference on the top end if you shift out. Seems that I cant launch with over 5 or 6psi of boost off the line or my truck will spin in 4wd, I got sideways in 4wd on one run at sar. I have similar mods as rutroe.

Parish and Paco both dragged in 4wd. Parish turboed 6l and Paco with 7l with spray.

Step 1. Go to the track.
Step 2. Launch and complete 1/4 in 4hi.
Step 3 launch and complete 1/4 in 2wd
Step 4 Launch in 4hi switch to 2wd sometime during run.
Step 5 Report your findings to this thread.
Step 6. Decide whether to convert to awd.

Thanks. Especially after a ton of Tequila. I have a Drs. appointment for my shoulder tomorrow morning. I hate getting older. If I had known I would have treated my body a whole lot better.

How about some tips and tricks from the guys that do this. Any horror stories out there, broken tie rods, getting sideways, etc?

I almost took out the car I was racing one time. It was on a test and tune night with what seemed to be no track prep at all. Wasnt violent or anything but truck just drifted steadily sideways once the nitrous hit. Front fenders had plenty of rubber on them so I know my fronts were spinning. Shut it down just before I crossed the center lane.

Other than that night, Im typically straight as an arrow.

QA1 double adjustables on the front helped out a lot. If I max out the rebound setting its effectively like having limiting straps. Really keeps the front end down.

Dude you know more than me. I have had no issues. No bent tie rods or anything. Eventually I am sure to be there.

What are you running these days?

I know what your saying though about "eventually". Its fun but what I dont like about it is the added sense of "Am I going to break something this time" floating around in my head.

On snow, you can go as fast as conditions allow in 4HI with no worries. I've done 80-85 for a good 15 miles (noone on the road but me), just haven't taken a longer trip than that yet. I usually use Auto though, and 4HI for only the worst driving conditions. I consider Auto the "dummy mode" that won't allow me to tear stuff up.....and so I use it as much as possible

Even using Auto, I can easily cruise at 60 when other vehicles are only crawling along at 35ish. If visibility won't allow me to see the slowpokes I reduce speed accordingly. And I don't always go that fast in a blizzard.....just because you "can" go that fast doesn't mean you have to.

Just remember that on snow your acceleration traction is MUCH better than your braking traction and you'll be fine. Watch out for bridge icing.

Now, going in a straight line without snow/ice/rain to allow some slippage (which is mostly what you're concerned with I assume, and not my snow driving lessons), I'm not sure I'd push it past 60....and even then only for a short stretch. For more than that, you want either AWD or FULL-Time 4WD like on some '70s and '80s trucks. Yes, they are different.
