yes I will chime in, good call warlock
I have seen literally hundreds of these radios with the same issue. You can either find someone who will repair it and spend a couple hundred to fix your factory 6-disc, or you can get the Pioneer 6-disc dvd changer/in dash monitor(my preferred option). It will cost a little more to do it right but at least you have a screen that holds 6 discs and has dvd and mp3 capabilities. Another option if you have iPod is you can get either an iPod adapter for your factory radio or get an aftermarket that has iPod compatibility and consolidate your cd collection(like I did). I haven't used a CD in probably 4 years. You can also get an mp3 compatible cd player and just use mp3 cds(they generally hold 140+ songs). If I missed any options I'm sure pl4yboy will come to the rescue.

Sticky/broken gauges? I can help. PM me for details.
Meh, I'm kinda like you. I never leave the stocker in long enough to let them go bad. Most likely the lends/reader went bad. Is your truck still under warranty? If it is, they should switch it out at the stealership for free if you want to keep that stock look. Or, you can do what low-lyf said and buy a new one. That's really about your only options as far as I know.
Is it possible that you got multiple cds stuck in the same slot? If so, that's a much easier fix.

I got in the truck a little later and the cd player started working again. Does this meen it's about to go out for good? I might just have to go with a DVD player.

What usually messes up is the loading/switching mechanism. If it is sparatic I would say it's about to be broke for good until it gets fixed. When I worked at chuck's we sent as many off for repair as we replaced. It was usually around $250 for repairs and about a 2 week down time. Then 3 months later half of the repairs would come back and they were off for another two weeks.
I'm the same way, as soon as I buy a truck/ car it's getting audio as soon as I sign my name. My last 4 vehicles have gone straight from the lot/owners house to the exhaust shop, then to the stereo shop, then back home for install. Except for me black 02, I was lazy on it for a couple weeks until I got tired of not having my iPod and remote start.

Almost zero per cent failure rate on factory rebuilds from our source that gets them to us the next day if ordered by 4 PM. No software updates for the 07 that I found but I didn't know how to reply to your PM without the VIN or knowing if your truck is a GMT800 or GMT900.

I guess it's because the place the fixes them is GM approved and gets field fixes and tech info from the GM vendors that make the stuff in the 1st place. There is tons of red tape with radios, OnStar parts, and instrument panel clusters that would put you to sleep if I tried to explain it all. It's a good question though. BTW, I said "Almost zero per cent".....
