wow! trying to read this thread just makes my head hurt.

    anyway...
if you can find an NV3500 from an s10, the gear ratios are a little closer. also, this trans ain't as weak as some people make it out to be. there's a guy on here running one behind a slightly-built 6.0 & said it holds up fine
00 FRC - just top end, exhaust, and a hot-air intake
    99 Sierra - 5.3 / 5spd

The NVG3500 does NOT have a granny 1st but the ratios still suck for performance. The NVG4500 does have a granny 1st and is strong but make sure the 5th gear speed nut update has been done and don't expect it to work in a performance application either.

BTW, the 3500 was used behind the 4 cylinder S-10 2.2 if that matters.

yea but the nv 3500 was also used behind the 4.8 and the old 5.7s in full size trucks rated at toeing like 5000 lbs so should be ok for a lil wile im shur after a fue 4000rpm dumps it will go to peaces

i work at a dodge dealership and IMO the upgrade is only nessesary if you don't drive the truck right. the 5th gear only fails when you have the truck in too high of a gear and lug the truck around.

that being said, if you have the time and an extra 80 bucks, it is worth the ease of mind to know it has been upgraded. but they are on backorder right now through chrysler.

Just put a 4l80 in it and be done with it.

Yea but that's no fun I wona lanch at like 4000rpm and I could do it with a 80e and a tbrake but t brakes on the 80e are really slow
