Wiring harness questions for my 5.3 swap into a 92 fullsize...

I've got a few questions. I've read through tons of these posts even before I registered with the site and can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for, so I figured I'd ask. I've done a few swaps before with the TBI engines, but I've never went from one generation fuel injected engine to another generation. I'm putting a 99 model 5.3 into my 92 C1500 to clear things up before I start asking.

First, I'm using the factory 92 dash and cluster and dash harness. For the ignition switch to energize the computer and kick the starter, will I have to redo some wiring in the steering column? Pictures would be nice if anyone has any.

Second, I have a complete factory harness that came with the 5.3 and computer to match. All came out of the same truck. All I have is the engine harness. That's all I need right?

Third, which parts of the 5.3 engine harness have to spider into my dash harness? I know that oil pressure, fuel level, temperature, voltage, and tach are just what they are, but what about the vehicle speed sensor running my OBS cluster?

Lastly, I'm gonna be turboing the engine and doing something similar to a thread I read over at LS1Tech where you swap sides with the factory exhaust manifolds and run into a turbo at the front. Just wondering what amounts of PSI the stock bottom end will hold safely.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I have everything ready to go, now it's time to just put everything in, get it wired up, and hit the road.

DBRODS and Redheartbeat are your best bet to answer these two questions.

Ok first of you dont have to mess with the steering column wiring at all. Next fuel level is stand alone on your 92, the vss signal you can splice in at the drac box behind the glove box its a blue with black stripe if I remeber right. Then you can use the temp switch out of a 98 camaro, oil pressure you can find a spot to tap in the 92 sender. The voltage gauge I didnt hook anything up and mine still works and if you have a factory tach Im not sure what you need to do.

Thank for the quick responses guys... I've read ALOT of Redheartbeats posts and replies and he seems to know quite a good bit, so I'lll definately take your advice on consulting him. As it stands for now, it's going 5.3 with 4L60E because I got everything in one chunk, but later on when my other 91 K1500 sells, I'll be investing in a Tremec 6 speed. Should be a wicked ride when the 6 speed and turbo is in it (although I know I could pull better numbers with an auto, but I'm partial to full control over my drivetrain, lol)

You don't have to rewire anything on the column for the starter. Just hook all the existing wires from the TBI to the 5.3 starter. yes, all you need is the engine harness. Use your TBI oil pressure guage on the block off plate on the pan on the 5.3, its on the driver rear of motor. You will have to drill it and tap it to a 1/8'' NPT, use drill bit Letter R. You wont have to mess with fuel level. You TBI temp sending unit can be threaded into the passenger side head at the back with a adapter. should be either 1/4'' or 3/8'' npt to 12mm- 1.5mm. Voltage will automatically read without anything hooked him. Im not sure about the speed sensor on your year, Greg might be able to help with that. On the stock manifold idea, I dont thing it will work, something about the manifolds hitting the upper control arm mounts. Hope this helps a little.

    Well answered Jon.

use your factory sending units from the old engine.

Go 80e, its worth the extra work.
