if it's between the LT1 or LT4, i'd say go with the LT4 definitely...

but (aside from being a not-as-easy swap) an LS engine has more potential and is more efficient

Lotus? I was at Mercury Marine in Stillwater Okla when they were building the LT5 engines. Top secret skunkworks. Didn't work there, was on a plant tour with our SME group.

Have you decided on which route to take yet? Asking LT1 / LT4 is like asking, what should I spend, $2000 or $5000? The LT4 is pretty rare and a lot more expensive than the LT1, you can buy the conversion kit, but you won't get the advertised HP they state. They were using a professionally balanced/blueprinted block w/ FAST fuel injection system. I did the LT4 conversion and ended up w/ 338/400 @ the crank, after spending all that money, upgrading my fuel system, etc, it was a little bit of a let down, even 1 hp per cu in would have made me happy.

If you want to go LTX and have power to back it up, talk to Lloyd Elliot, he is the master of head porting / cam design.

    Elliotts Port Works

    Good luck!

I have had ls1 and lt1. ill never go lt again. personally i would skip on the ls1 or 6 or ls2 and go towards an lq4. has all the displacement you need for a decent build. gmhightech just did a cam only build on the motor check it out.
