Thread: things needed for cam swap

Right, since its using fast impact to turn the bolt, it wont have enough force to turn the crank.

Everyone has already told you what you will need--which is pretty simple. But one thing is for sure--you need a DAMN GOOD pulley puller to get that crank pulley off. Do not use the cheap $20 ones that are at VatoZone or O'Reilly's.

If you have any other questions--just make a new thread or post of on the Shout Box.

Since you're getting different opinions, I'll throw my two cents in: Virgil and I have done a bunch of cam swaps together. Always used an impact putting the crank bolts in. Never had a problem. Until this last time. ALl of the sudden my belt started jumping a rib and turns out my crank bolt was loose and the pulley was working it's way out.

DON'T USE AN IMPACT TO PUT IT ON WITH! Take your time and torque it to specs...

I have used cotton rope in the cylinder, through the spark plug hole, to hold the valves up. Just put it in and roll the crank around until it packs into the compression dome area against the valves.

Or you could use the top dead center method, its works ok but some times its a pain since the valve drops a little before it hits the piston and it makes getting the spring off a little harder.
