As far as the axle shafts themselves, maybe you could get the return register behind the hub portion machined down to allow more room inboard towards the seal but losing the radius will make the shafts weaker.

Regardless of what rearend I go with, I'm gonna have to grind the brackets off and make a custom 4 link (stock is 4link). The 1/2 ton avalanche never came with a 14bolt, and the 3/4 8.1L av is leaf, but has a 14bolt.
that's a good idea. I think I'll get a rearend down here from snyders and see if i can get something machined, maybe 1/32 here and 1/32 there, it just might add up to the 1/16" i need.
Would it be possible to take a hair off the thickness of the c-clip? I know it's critical, but just a bit, along with the hub area?
