I got hired as a firefighter making $27k. 3 months later got a raise for doing good to $30k. Made some friends and applied at a better dept. Did well on the interview, and got the job over 60 people. Started me at $37k. Now I make $39k and in December I get a raise to $43k. Wife has 2 jobs and goes to college. We both work our asses off but no kids helps. If I get the LT position next year when they do promotions, I will be bumped to $58k. You gotta work hard and take all overtime you can get along with cutting on spending. If you do you'll be happy later.
Nice Jeff, that is a lot of hard work paying off for you.

Tell me about it. I am an estimator for a general contractor, make 50k a year, my gf works for disney as a promotions director making 50k, and by no means do we live the great life. Maybe its CA, maybe its just the way it goes, but you would think two people could live pretty well on 100k a year. Work hard, get an education, save your money, and reward yourself occasionally. Thats the only advice I can give people.

Allot of people in Cali are selling their houses there and buying twice the house for 1/2 the money over here in Texas. A $250,000 house in cali cost about 90-100k here.

And you know the most pathetic part? There is no house even close to me that is $250,000. The average house in my area is about $550,000-600,000.
