I think it will be ok, if he tuned it to turn the fans on at 160* then it will just take longer to warm up. If you have to have one then go to Autozone. they have MR gasket thermostats for like 12 bux and they are 160*

Can you swap out the thermostat without changing the housing? I bought one with the housing and later noticed that you can just pop the thermostat off the housing. I wouldn't know what part number it would be, but would it be possible to match a low temp one up, and pop it on? Seems like it would be cheaper.

I just modified the opening temperature on my stock thermostat. Free.

the thermostat does pop out of the housing. And if you get a thermostat, you can get a LS1 thermostat. eBay Motors: Mr. Gasket 6367 Hi-Flow LS1 Thermostat 160 deg. (item 200202247463 end time Mar-23-08 07:40:58 PDT) I have this one, but I bought it from autozone.

yeah, all you need to modify the stat is a BB stuck in the stat center pin. Theres a how-to topic here somewhere on how to do it.

Does it fit in the same housing or did you have to modify that? I can buy one in the housing for like 35 bucks, but i'd rather spend 12 if possible. Thanks.

it pops right in... hardest part is getting to the bottom bolt of the two on the waterneck. But yeah, just pull out the old one and push in the new one.
