if you take your current truck out for a drive do this, put it in 1st gear and nail the throttle. What will happen is it will run up to the pre-programmed max RPM and then shift into second even though only first is selected. The same thing will occur if you put it in second next.
After the shift kit iinstall, just drive it as before and the transmission will be pretty much as it was before. Tell your installer that you do not want hard shifts and they'll be sure to fix it so it shifts normally. You should also buy a new valve body seperater plate to go with the shift kit so that if the old one is worn the new one will fix the wear. Some guys like to replace the steel check balls with newer style plastic balls. I prefer the steel myself.
