Thread: LS6/T56 in a 1997 GMC

    LS6/T56 in a 1997 GMC

I have started this project and will probably pull the 305 tonight!

I plan on using Nelson for the harness.
-Do you recommend them for the tune also?

I guess I will leave the factory harness to run the gauges, cruise and what ever else.
-Is this the best way to do it?
-What did you guys do with the wires left over (like the old injector plug)?

Has anybody used shorty headers or Mid-length from Mac for a Camaro?

The truck came with a 5 speed, so I'm hoping the quick dis-connect from the clutch master cylinder will hook up to the T56 slave.

Please let me know your thoughts and opinions,

    Kris

Leave all wires until you're 100% finished with the install and then cut the wire off back to the loom.

Order a PCM pre-programmed from NP when you order the harness.

Did you use electrical tape when you cut the wires?

I use a piece of heat shrink tubing.

Yep, one at a time. Took all of about 15 minutes.

    I have a 5.3 T56 combo in a 92 fullsize.
I did not use the shifter relocator that you mentioned, but it looks fine.
I bought a kit from Keisler Auto that moves the shifter to the front hole, but requires some transmission dissasembly and reassembly.
The only issue you might have with the kit you linked is it may hit the transmission tunnel. Mine is very close with the stock crossmember.

I ended up removing much of the original wiring from my truck, but not until it was running, and all the bugs were worked out.

    It is a fun swap.

    Good luck
