New to LS1 Truck & Need answers

    Hey,
I'm new to the site. I live in Hampton, GA. I found this site when researching LS engine swaps for OBS Chevys. I got a 94 Chevy 1500 ext. cab. I'm wanting to do the 5.3 swap, but I get confused on some things that I havent read yet. Like for instenst, How do you rewire the new Engine and Tranny to work with the factory Speedo and Tach? Will the long tube pacesetter headers that are for the NBS chevys work on this swap? Is it a must to change the battery location or will it work just fine without relocating it? Any help or advice you all can help me with will be greatly appreciated. I need to get this swap done in a minimum of 4 days, reason being, this truck is my primary vehicle and I was wondering could it be done? Thanks in advance for any help and advice. May God Bless you all...!

wow okay quite the entrance lots of questions. First before anything gets answered a little more info is going to be needed.
    Is your truck already v8?
    Is it 2wd or 4wd?
    Stock ride height?
What is the 5.3 coming from(what year truck/model etc)?

Yea it is stock ride height. Its got 5.7/350 with the 4l60e tranny. The truck only has 188k on it, so its not in too bad of shape. I just want more pulling power and better fuel mileage. I am still looking around my local salvage yards, but as of now the best deal I found was an 04 4.8 w/4l80 trany, $1500 and it comes with everything. Wiring harness, ecu, all the accessories, TAC Module, Gas pedal. But I really want the power of the 5.3

O..... and it is a 2wd, almost forgot to mention that.

your new ls stand alone harness will have the outputs labeled for tach and speedo, although not sure if they will work with the obs gauges... but ask Redheartbeat, he will know

Will the long tube pacesetter headers that are for the NBS chevys work on this swap?

no, but there are obs swap headers that work well

Is it a must to change the battery location or will it work just fine without relocating it?

    will work fine

Any help or advice you all can help me with will be greatly appreciated. I need to get this swap done in a minimum of 4 days, reason being, this truck is my primary vehicle and I was wondering could it be done? Thanks in advance for any help and advice. May God Bless you all...![/QUOTE]

Geting the 80e is a good decision, but you should really look around for a 5.3 or 6.0, swaps will be identical anyways, also are you sure the motor you're picking up isn't in fact a 5.3.

ya, ive never ssen a 5.3 80e combo. its usually 4.8 or 6.0 with the 80. and most always the 4.8s came from vans.

I would think for around that price you could find a 6.0 with 80e more than likely gonna be a little more but totally worth the extra cubes.

Like Mic said, if you buy a standalone harness it will have the outputs labeled for tach and speedo. I just used the harness my engine came with and removed all the unnecessary wires.
Pacesetters for NBS will not work on GMT-400, use these http://www.schoenfeldheaders.com/LS1-TRUCK.htm
You can leave the battery in the same place.
If you can do it in 4 days that would be awesome, just make sure you have everything you need.
Oh and welcome to the site.
