    Question Lifter preload

Hello, Can any one tell me what is the ideal lifter preload for a stock 2002 truck 5.3 lifter?
I have heard too much cuts performance, too little rattles.
I heard that they have .090" travel --- so that .045" is ideal. Is that right?
What is the consensus out there on the WWW?
    Thanks

I'm not too sure it's that big of an issue on the gm factory hydraulic lifters. You can bolt a set of 1.75 or 1.85 rockers on the engine without replacing lifters of shimming the rocker stands. You'd think you'd have to shim the stands up for the larger lift since even at the bottom of the lobe the lifter plunger would be compressed further in.

If you want to go for all-out performance get you a solid lift cam and lifters. Hydraulic lifter cams bleed off compression and performance at high rpms.

No high rpms, trying to get better gas mileage so I don't have to buy a car for the highway.
We have a 1985 Toyota Van since it was new, and that is our around town beater. I used to pull wrenches at a Toy Dealership---22 years ago.

Stock GMC 5.3 lifters in my 2002.
    Comp Cam Roller Rockers 1.75.
C Cam bumpy stick from Nelson Per.
C C harden Push sticky things.
    GM Z06 valve Springy things.
This is to get better gas mileage , just ask my Wifey thing.

Don't forget the Thorly Tri- Y's.

PS, I am spending more on a complete remodel of the up stairs bathroom so wifey can't complain and that's me doing all the work.

Sorry, I couldn't keep my answer short, back to work.

solid roller isn't worth it on anything less than an all out race motor. trust me, the additional costs aren't justified on a street motor
