I've done a few swaps before with the TBI engines, but I've never went from one generation fuel injected engine to another generation. I'm putting a 99 model 5.3 into my 92 C1500 to clear things up before I start asking.
First, I'm using the factory 92 dash and cluster and dash harness. For the ignition switch to energize the computer and kick the starter, will I have to redo some wiring in the steering column? Pictures would be nice if anyone has any.
Second, I have a complete factory harness that came with the 5.3 and computer to match. All came out of the same truck. All I have is the engine harness. That's all I need right?
Third, which parts of the 5.3 engine harness have to spider into my dash harness? I know that oil pressure, fuel level, temperature, voltage, and tach are just what they are, but what about the vehicle speed sensor running my OBS cluster?
Lastly, I'm gonna be turboing the engine and doing something similar to a thread I read over at LS1Tech where you swap sides with the factory exhaust manifolds and run into a turbo at the front. Just wondering what amounts of PSI the stock bottom end will hold safely.
Any help would be greatly appreciated because I have everything ready to go, now it's time to just put everything in, get it wired up, and hit the road.
