The truck is a '03 1500HD that has 4WD, 6.0L, 4L80E, G80, crew cab, short bed, heavy toolbox, 265/75/16 BFG muds and around 76,000 miles. I put a Volant CAI, Magnaflow dual exhaust, a DiabloSport Predator on the truck too. I used the '87oct tune w/ the predator. Yes, yes I know a Nelson tune can do more for me. Anyway...

I use this truck for everything. It sees towing regularly. It's my daily driver. The gas mileage sucks, it's not all me I've tried slowing down and just didn't gain much. It's averages 11c/14hw mpg.

The only problem with the truck, besides the gas mileage, is it seems to missing some low end torque. The intake and exhaust didn't do much, but made it sound good, big woop. I'm not looking for high end here, it already comes alive on top.

What do yall suggest I do to gain some low end on the truck? Just trying to gain some knowledge here. Could it possibly the torque management?

    Thanks yall!
    Chad

sounds like you need a radix supercharger....over 400 f/lb of tq at below 2500 rpms is what you are looking for....dont need a new hi dollar one...go find you a cheap used one....they are usually trouble free....

What gear are you running? Try putting your stock tune back in. Not all tuners are good for fuel mileage.

BTW, your truck is working against you when it comes to fuel mileage. It's heavy, tires are heavy, toolbox is heavy, transmission his heavy and geared not so great, wide tires create drag. You're probably doing good for a heavy pig truck. Max out the tire pressure to the max posted on the tire sidewalls. Lose the weight in the bed of the truck unless it needs to be in there all the time. The rig needs to go on a diet if fuel mileage is a concern or you need to trade it in on a diesel.

That would be nice, but unfortunately it's not in the budget right now. I don't think I could find a sub-$1000 radix .

    I believe it's a 3.73 gear.

I'll try putting the stock tune back on. The main reason I got it was to change the tire ratio to correct the speedo anyway.

The gas mileage isn't killing me right now. It's still <$3/gal around here.

I think I'm just asking for a miracle here and wasting people's time...

You may be able to step up to a Trailblazer convertor to get the engine RPM up a little bit during take-off.

Would one work in a 4L80E? I'd hate to be towing something heavy, and have it come apart on me.

I liked you earlier comment, I'm going to keep my eyes open for any right priced diesels.

Oops, forgot you had the 4l80e.

About a 2600 rpm stall would wake that thing up. It should help you accelerate by allowing the engine to come up on the engine rpm. The diesel has to be your best option for what you use a truck for.

    Still thinking....

Is there a low end cam out there that would make a difference? Or would I be wasting my time?
